ABOUT THE ROLE

We’re looking for a Technical Lead to support the design, development, and implementation of WSUP’s urban sanitation carbon mitigation programme in Kenya. The role will lead carbon data collection and management, MRV systems development, stakeholder engagement, and the formalization and integration of sanitation service providers to support the registration, monitoring, verification, and issuance of carbon credits from faecal sludge management and methane mitigation interventions across Nairobi, Kisumu, Naivasha and Nakuru.

Essential requirements

Experience and knowledge

  • University degree in a relevant field (A)
  • Experience in managing projects funded by agencies or governments (A)
  • At least three years experience of Water, Sanitation, Hygiene (WASH) for low-income urban areas (A)
  • Experience of working with water and/or sanitation service providers/Enterprises (A)
  • Track record of delivering project goals within deadlines and budgets (A)
  • Leading and managing project teams of stakeholders, partners and project staff (A) (I)
  • Demonstrable track record of effectively building and sustaining key external andinternal relationships at community, utility and governmental levels to realise programme and project goals (A) (I)
  • Experience of empowering project staff and others to strengthen their capacity and capability through mentoring and coaching (I)

Skills

  • Excellent English communication skills—written, verbal (A, T)
  • Ability to work independently and lead a diverse multi-disciplinary team (A)
  • Ability to influence and engage effectively with a range of stakeholders and partners, for example, consumers, funders, corporate, utility and governmental partners (A) (I)
  • Project management skills including planning, setting objectives implementation, monitoring and evaluation, budgeting, financial management and sustainability (A) (I)
  • Excellent planning, organisational and time management skills, able to work well under pressure both proactively and reactively and prioritise a challenging workload (A) (I)
  • Demonstrable commercial awareness and capability; highly analytical (A) (I)
  • Able to identify, prioritise and manage areas of risk (A) (I)
  • Good communication skills in English: able to communicate complex concepts in a clear and concise way to non-technical managers both in writing and verbally and to provide professional advice with confidence and tact (I)
  • Proficient user of Microsoft Office suite including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint and of project management software (A)
