Responsibilities:

  • Receives specimens for general and specialized for Molecular assays.
  • Analyze tests with maximum efficiency
  • Ensure timely reporting of critical values
  • Produce valid results ensuring maximum utilization of reagents and time.
  • Analyze tests with maximum efficiency signed by senior laboratory staff.
  • Equipment maintenance.
  • Maintain appropriate internal controls on all processes in Molecular biology testing
  • Manage routine and planned preventive maintenance of equipment in the section
  • Run internal controls and QC with all Molecular assays
  • Develop and implement SOPs in Molecular.
  • Participate in SOP writing in the section.
  • Observe and comply with Health and Safety regulations in the laboratory
  • Maintaining high standards of hygiene and general cleanliness in work areas.
  • Participate in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.
  • Participate in continuous medical education.
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned from time-to-time supervisor or designee.
  • Prepare and package samples at appropriate temperature to be outsourced and hand-over to collection agents
  • Teach practical skills to students and other Laboratory technicians.

Requirements:

  • Higher Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology from a recognized institute or equivalent
  • Registered with Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board.
  • Minimum 3 years’ working experience
  • Competent in Molecular Skills including nucleic acid isolation from variety of samples, QC procedures and analysis, PCR techniques, sequencing techniques including next-generation sequencing.
  • Competent in operating the usual open and closed molecular equipment and platforms.
  • Competent in operating manual and automated workflows.
  • Bioinformatic skills are an added advantage.
  • Well versed in the required discipline
  • Team player
  • Attention to detail
  • Good communication skills (both written and oral)
