Job Description
The primary objective of setting up the college was first as a stop gap measure to develop necessary skills to ensure continuity in port operations after the collapse of East African Railways and Harbours Corporation.
Trainer, Nautical Science
Job specification:
- Reporting to the Senior Trainer, the Trainer is responsible for training Students under the provisions of the respective School in accordance with Standards of Training Certification and Watch keeping (STCW) 1978 as amended and other Maritime International Conventions.
- The Trainer will assist in conducting practical training in vessel navigation, repairs and maintenance.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Duties and responsibilities at this level will entail assisting in: –
- Designing, developing and delivering of training programmes
- The development of Maritime Education and Training policies
- Developing and reviewing curriculum
- Developing the school calendar and time tabling
- The development, evaluation of teaching, learning and assessment materials
- Supervising trainees’ Practical sessions, Trade Projects and Business plans
- Marking internal examinations
- Maintaining students’ attendance and performance records
- Ensuring workshop equipment are well maintained and in working condition
- Job search
Person Specifications:
For appointment to this grade a Candidate must have the following:
- Bachelor’s degree in Nautical Science from a University recognized in Kenya, OOW Reg II/1 or Master Reg. II/3 (less than 500 GT)
- Relevant sea experience at management level will be an added advantage
- Proficiency in computer applications
- Fulfill the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution.
