Responsibilities or duties
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Diagnose, repair, and maintain all school and institutional vehicles to ensure safety and reliability.
- Carry out preventive, corrective, and emergency mechanical repairs on light and commercial vehicles.
- Develop and implement a preventive maintenance schedule for all fleet vehicles.
- Conduct routine servicing including oil changes, brakes, suspension, cooling systems, and engine components.
- Ensure daily vehicle inspections and roadworthiness checks are conducted and documented.
- Supervise and verify outsourced mechanical work to ensure quality and value for money.
- Maintain accurate vehicle service, repair, and maintenance records.
- Supervise drivers’ compliance with safety standards, licenses, and transport regulations.
- Train drivers on basic vehicle care, safe driving practices, and fuel efficiency.
- Liaise with garages, insurers, and vehicle inspection authorities as required.
- Ensure cleanliness and proper care of vehicle interiors and exteriors.
- Prepare fleet maintenance, incident, and performance reports for management.
Qualifications or requirements
REQUIREMENTS:
- Diploma, Certificate, or Degree in Automotive Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Transport Management, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years’ hands-on experience as a mechanic handling light and commercial vehicles.
- Proven experience in diagnostics, preventive maintenance, and fleet repairs.
- Valid driving license.
