About the Role

Seeking a hands-on Extension and Aggregation Officer to run a cashew buying center and aggregate raw cashew nuts on Kenya's coast — building market access opportunities for smallholder farmers in a scaling program.

Responsibilities

Manage the buying center:

  • Operate it during scheduled hours.
  • Keep it clean, organized, and secure.
  • Handle, dry, and store RCN according to Tupande standard operating procedures.

Aggregate accurately and with integrity:

  • Weigh RCN accurately.
  • Quality control each purchase (sorting damaged, moldy, or poor-quality nuts).
  • Process payments via FieldPro and ensure compliance (i.e., KRA/eTIMS).
  • Escalate any disputes, discrepancies, or irregularities to your Supervisor immediately.

Support farmers in the field:

  • Deliver agronomic training to farmers in your assigned location.
  • Communicate purchase and quality requirements.
  • Executive field visits and prepare field reports for your Supervisor.
  • Coordinate with Tupande Agents and Zone Supervisors to mobilize farmers.

Collect accurate data:

  • Interview farmers and brokers.
  • Record data on time using provided digital tools (i.e., stock take, farmer/broker scouting).
  • Escalate any data-quality issues to your Supervisor.

Coordinate logistics:

  • Work with loaders, Tupande’s logistics team, and your Supervisor to schedule and execute RCN collection.

Career Growth and Development

We have a strong culture of constant learning and we invest in developing our people. You’ll have weekly check-ins with your manager, access to mentorship and training programs, and regular feedback on your performance. We hold career reviews every six months, and set aside time to discuss your aspirations and career goals. You’ll have the opportunity to shape a growing organization and build a rewarding long-term career.

Qualifications

Across all roles, these are the general qualifications we look for. For this role specifically, you will have:

Required:

  • Demonstrable prior experience with an agricultural, aggregation, trading, or comparable operations employer (verifiable references or employment record).
  • Ability to read and write in English/local language and perform basic arithmetic.
  • Demonstrated integrity and accountability in handling agricultural goods, weighing, and record-keeping.
  • Fluency in Kiswahili and familiarity with local coastal language(s).
  • Computer literacy and comfortable with tablet/smartphone data-collection tools.
  • High attention to detail in quality control, record-keeping, and payment processing.
  • Independent, proactive, problem-solving - comfortable operating with limited daily supervision.
  • Willingness and ability to travel across the assigned area, and to do hands-on RCN handling.
  • Strong connection to the local farming community
