Our client is a newly established, modern aparthotel located along the Northern Bypass, Nairobi, offering contemporary serviced accommodation designed to provide comfort, convenience, and exceptional guest experiences for both business and leisure travelers. As they establish a strong operational and financial foundation, they are seeking to recruit a highly competent and hands-on Hotel Accountant to lead the property's finance function.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced hospitality finance professional who is passionate about financial excellence, internal controls, and supporting business growth through sound financial management.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Prepare daily revenue and occupancy reports with performance analysis.
- Produce weekly cash flow reports and banking reconciliations.
- Prepare monthly management accounts including Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow Statements, and variance analysis.
- Deliver timely and accurate financial reports to support management decision-making.
Financial Control & Treasury
- Oversee cash management, banking, and petty cash controls.
- Monitor receivables and ensure timely collection of outstanding debts.
- Manage end-to-end account reconciliations and maintain strong internal controls.
- Ensure proper documentation of all financial transactions.
Food & Beverage Cost Management
- Monitor food and beverage profitability against budgets.
- Analyze food costs, beverage costs, and operational margins.
- Recommend cost-saving initiatives and investigate variances.
Tax & Compliance
- Ensure timely filing and payment of VAT, PAYE, Corporate Tax, and all statutory obligations.
- Maintain compliance with IFRS, tax regulations, and company policies.
- Keep management informed of regulatory and tax changes affecting the business.
Audit & Inventory Management
- Coordinate internal and external audits.
- Supervise monthly stock takes and inventory reconciliations.
- Monitor procurement processes and ensure adherence to purchasing controls.
- Review stock variances and recommend corrective actions.
Team Leadership
- Supervise and mentor the finance support team, including:
- Purchasing Officer/Storekeeper
- Cost Controller
- Payables Accountant
- Review reports and reconciliations before submission.
- Promote accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement across the finance function.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field.
- CPA(K) Finalist or fully qualified CPA(K); ACCA qualification is an added advantage.
- Minimum 5 years' experience in accounting, with at least 3 years in the hospitality industry.
- Strong experience in hotel financial reporting, budgeting, cash flow management, and internal controls.
- Working knowledge of hotel Property Management Systems (PMS), accounting software, and Microsoft Excel.
- Sound understanding of Kenyan tax regulations, and statutory compliance.
- Experience managing inventory, food and beverage costing, and procurement controls.
- Demonstrated leadership experience supervising finance teams.
