Position Overview
The Unit Accountant will oversee the property's daily financial operations. During the pre-opening phase, you will design financial workflows, implement accounting systems, and manage initial procurement tracking. Post-launch, you will lead budgeting, financial reporting, payroll, tax compliance, and cash flow management. This role reports directly to the General Manager.
Key Responsibilities
Pre-Opening Phase
- Set up property management (PMS) and accounting systems integration.
- Establish internal controls and operating procedures for all departments.
- Track pre-opening expenses against the approved launch budget.
- Assist in vendor registration and procurement validation.
Daily Operations & Reporting
- Prepare monthly financial statements, profit and loss accounts, and balance sheets.
- Manage accounts receivable and payable, ensuring timely vendor payments and guest billing.
- Oversee daily night audit reconciliations and bank reconciliations.
- Supervise income audit processes for rooms, food and beverage, and other revenue streams.
Compliance & Strategy
- Ensure full compliance with KRA tax regulations, including VAT, PAYE, and withholding tax.
- Manage payroll processing and statutory deductions.
- Coordinate internal and external audits annually.
- Analyze financial data to provide the management team with actionable cost-saving insights.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related business field.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA-K) or ACCA qualification.
- Minimum of 3–5 years of accounting experience, specifically within the hospitality sector (hotels or serviced apartments).
- Proficiency in hospitality software (e.g., Opera, Fidelio, or Sun Systems) and standard accounting packages (QuickBooks, Sage).
- Strong understanding of Kenyan tax laws and statutory compliance.
- Excellent analytical, Excel, and communication skills.
- Hospitality pre-opening experience – added advantage
