Key Duties/Responsibilities:
- Be responsible for library planning, budgeting, and staffing in consultation with the Human Capital office as well as the office responsible for infrastructural development.
- Be responsible for development and implementation of library policies.
- Coordinate all the library services in the University.
- Acquire and conserve library research materials by ensuring that the library is a viable repository of current academic materials and other reading materials of scholarly value.
- Be responsible for the organization and operation of library services.
- Adopt, maintain and ensure compliance with library standards.
- Manage the provision of conducive reading space for library users.
- Establish and facilitate the use of e-Library.
- Perform such other duties as may be delegated or assigned by the Deputy Vice- Chancellor in charge of Academic, Research and Student Affairs.
- Facilitate the networking and exchange of materials with other libraries locally and internationally.
- Make proposals for acquisition and conservation of library research materials.
- Promote provision of library support services.
- Be responsible for setting technical standards for all branches of the University’s library, providing the necessary centralized services and their co-ordination.
Academic/Professional Qualifications
- Have a Doctorate degree in Library and Information Sciences or a related field from recognized institutions
- Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in the relevant field with three (3) Publications since the last promotion plus five (5) years’ experience as Senior Librarian
- Be a member of at least one recognized professional body
- Be computer literate with demonstrable practical experience
- Demonstrate outstanding qualities of leadership, coordination and organization at top management
