Kenya Animal Genetic Resources Centre (KAGRC) formally known as Central Artificial Insemination Station (CAIS) was established by Kenya Gazette Notice Number 557 of 19th June 1946 with the objective of controlling venereal diseases and genetic improvement of exotic dairy Cattle. KAGRC is situated 15 km from City Centre (West of the Nairobi City), and has its Headquarters in Lower Kabete in Nairobi and has land capacity of about 358 Acres, 124 bulls in the stud.

Duties and responsibilities entail assisting in:
Breeding Technologies
- Preparing livestock production reports;
- Analyzing livestock inputs and products samples;
- Participating in livestock improvement and multiplication;
- Undertaking genomic evaluation of livestock;
- Developing and updating sire catalogues; and
- Collaborating with other officers in carrying out research in breeding and breeding technologies.
Gene banking & Conservation
- Maintaining a national livestock resources gene bank;
- Taking stock of livestock tissues, DNA, semen and embryos of all livestock and emerging livestock species in Kenya;
- Identification of endangered species;
- Undertaking conservation and avail livestock tissues, DNA, semen and embryos of all livestock and emerging livestock species in Kenya for both research and breeding;
- Updating database on all livestock tissues, DNA, semen and embryos of all existing and emerging livestock species;
- Training famers individual farmers/ communities for conservation of animal genetic resources; and
- Participating in research activities pertaining to genebanking and conservation.
Germplasm Production
- Supervising media preparation;
- Collecting germplasm;
- Evaluating and validating animal germplasm;
- Processing of germplasm;
- Packaging animal germplasm;
- Preservation of germplasm;
- Ensuring adherence to good veterinary practices;
- Training staff and other stakeholders in germplasm processing;
- Validating laboratory results and making appropriate recommendations; and
- Participating in research activities pertaining to germplasm production.
Person Specifications
For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have: -
- Bachelors degree in Veterinary Medicine or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
- Registered by Kenya Veterinary Board and in good standing; and
- Proficiency in Computer Application;

- Good interpersonal skills;
- Communication skills;
- Commitment to duty;
