Description of the role
The purpose of this consultancy is to produce high‑quality video content that documents CIVICUS’ work, amplifies civil society voices, and supports our advocacy, campaigns, and storytelling efforts. The consultant will work closely with the Communications department and other teams to conceptualise, film, edit, and deliver compelling visual narratives.
On average, it is estimated that the videographer/filmmaker will be required to produce 3–6 video pieces bi-annually, ranging from short social‑media clips to longer documentary‑style features. The successful applicant will be added to CIVICUS’ Preferred Supplier List and may receive additional requests which can be assessed based on relevance and availability.
Location: Remote
Duration: July 2026-June 2028
Type of contract arrangement: Services commissioned on an as-needed basis. Volume of work can fluctuate over course of consultancy.

Specific tasks and responsibilities
- Conceptualise and storyboard video content in collaboration with CIVICUS teams.
- Film interviews, events, case studies, and campaign materials (remote or on‑location depending on project needs).
- Design and produce animated videos (e.g. motion graphics, explainers, data visualisations, social animations) to support campaigns and advocacy goals.
- Edit and produce polished videos optimised for multiple platforms (website, social media, presentations, events).
- Create short‑form content for rapid‑response advocacy moments.
- Provide subtitles, captions, and accessible versions of all video materials.
- Ensure all content aligns with CIVICUS’ brand, values, and messaging.
- Manage production schedules, permissions, and consent processes.
- Other tasks to support multimedia storytelling, as assigned.
Requirements
- Minimum three years of experience in videography, filmmaking, or multimedia production.
- Demonstrated ability to produce high‑quality visual stories featuring diverse voices and contexts.
- Experience working with civil society, human rights, or social justice organisations is an asset.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Strong creative instincts and ability to translate complex issues into accessible visual narratives.
- Ability to work remotely across time zones.
- Fluency in English; additional languages are an advantage.
Location and timeframe
This is a remote consultancy. The videographer/filmmaker must be available for virtual coordination and occasional filming depending on project needs. Specific arrangements will be agreed with the Communications Department.
This consultancy runs from 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2028. Payment will be made per deliverable, based on a fixed fee agreed in advance.
Reporting
There is no formal reporting requirement. The consultant will provide updates during calls with the Communications Department and through email or messaging platforms as required.
