Amentum, a global leader in advanced engineering, technical, and professional services supporting the U.S. government, allied partners, and critical infrastructure sectors, is seeking a WHE / MHE Operator to support a unique U.S. Navy program located on the remote island of Diego Garcia.
Responsibilities or duties
The WHE / MHE Operator is responsible for operating wheeled and material‑handling equipment (WHE/MHE) in support of logistics, transportation, and cargo operations in accordance with Navy operational and safety standards. Responsibilities include operating equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, loaders, and other material‑handling vehicles to move, stage, load, and unload cargo and supplies.
The operator performs pre‑ and post‑operation inspections, ensures equipment is operated safely and efficiently, and follows established procedures for cargo handling and equipment use. This role includes maintaining situational awareness in active work areas and coordinating movements with supervisors and team members to support mission requirements.
Additional duties include assisting with cargo documentation as directed, maintaining cleanliness of assigned equipment, reporting mechanical issues or safety hazards, and supporting daily logistics operations in a remote, mission‑driven environment.
Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)
1–3 years of experience operating wheeled equipment or material‑handling equipment
High school diploma or equivalent
Basic knowledge of material‑handling procedures and equipment safety practices
Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting, bending, and prolonged equipment operation
Must be in possession of a valid Passport and be able to travel internationally.
Passport should be valid for a minimum of 1 plus years at the time of hiring.
Ability to successfully pass contract medical requirements and maintain requirements for duration of deployment.
Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.
Experience needed
1–3 years of experience operating wheeled equipment or material‑handling equipment

Preferred Qualifications
Previous work experience in an austere OCONUS environment with a multi-national workforce.
Excellent organizational, time management and customer service skills.
Valid country driver's license
Country visa (as required in line with the U.S. Department of State Foreign Clearance Guide).
