Background

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading environmental authority in the United Nations system. It sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the UN system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment.

Responsibilities

The incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Manage and maintain UNEP's public-facing websites, ensuring content is up-to-date, accurate, and engaging.
  • Develop and implement website strategies to enhance user experience and achieve communication objectives.
  • Create and edit web content, including text, images, and videos, adhering to UNEP's brand guidelines and editorial standards.
  • Monitor website performance using analytics tools and provide regular reports on key metrics.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to gather content and ensure website alignment with program activities.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve website issues, working with IT support as needed.
  • Stay abreast of web trends and best practices to continuously improve UNEP's online presence.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in Communications, Journalism, Information Technology, or a related field. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Experience:

  • A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in website management, content creation, and digital communications.
  • Proven experience with Content Management Systems (CMS) such as WordPress, Drupal, or similar.
  • Experience in web analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics) and data interpretation.
  • Experience working in an international organization or UN system is desirable.

Skills:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong understanding of web design principles, SEO, and user experience (UX).
  • Proficiency in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript is an asset.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
