Job Responsibilities
Plan and oversee all fleet maintenance, scheduling preventive and corrective work across the heavy-duty truck fleet to maximise vehicle availability for long-haul corridor runs out of Mombasa
Lead and develop the mechanics team, supervising daily workshop operations, assigning tasks, enforcing quality standards, and coordinating manufacturer-specific training for Mercedes-Benz, Volvo, and Tata vehicles
Oversee fault diagnosis and quality control, validating that root causes are correctly identified using both hands-on assessment and computerised diagnostic tools before any repair work begins
Ensure roadworthiness and compliance, confirming every vehicle meets technical and cross-border regulatory requirements before departure on East and Central Africa corridor routes
Report on workshop performance and drive improvement, tracking fleet availability, downtime, maintenance costs, and team productivity, and using that data to continuously improve processes and reduce turnaround times
Other Requirements
A bachelor's degree in Engineering or Business Administration is required; equivalent qualifications combined with relevant experience will be considered
Hands-on technical background in heavy trucks, with practical experience working on Mercedes-Benz, Volvo, Tata, or equivalent large European commercial vehicles
Proven workshop leadership experience, with a prior role as Workshop Manager, Fleet Maintenance Supervisor, or Senior Heavy-Duty Mechanic in a supervisory capacity
Demonstrated ability to diagnose and interpret complex mechanical and electrical faults across all major vehicle systems, with proficiency in manufacturer-specific diagnostic software and tools
Strong organisational and people management skills, with the ability to lead a team and manage multiple priorities effectively under pressure
