Background information about the job or company (e.g., role context, company overview)

This position is in the Regional Office for Eastern Africa (ROEA) in Nairobi (Kenya), Division for Operations (DO), United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). Within the framework of the UNODC Regional Programme for Eastern Africa, the incumbent will work under the overall supervision of the UNODC Regional Representative for Eastern Africa (ROEA) and under the direct supervision of the Programme Management Officer heading the Transnational Organized Crime and Illicit Trafficking Programme for Eastern Africa. S/he will work in close cooperation and coordination with the Assistant Administrative officer and the Procurement Officer in Nairobi. The intern will work under direct supervision of Head of TOC/CT Programmes in close cooperation and coordination with Assistant Administrative Officer.

Responsibilities or duties

The intern will support the team with procurement and general administration, including the following functions:

  • Undertake market research to identify vendors.
  • Actively participate in Vendor Database management to ensure that vendors are fully registered
  • Follow up on liquidations of purchase orders
  • Support in the development of the procurement plan
  • Support in the mandatory evaluation of the vendors
  • Assist to prepare procurement budgets to facilitate the creation of the shopping cart
  • Prepare partner letters for call for nominations.
  • Support training workshops and development of training materials and merchandise.
  • Follow up with vendors and meeting participants on matters related to banking details and HR mini master forms.
  • Any other duties as assigned may be assigned by the Supervisor

Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)

  • Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have recently completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have recently completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent).
  • Be computer literate in standard software applications;
  • Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and
  • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
