Background

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading environmental authority in the United Nations system. It sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the UN system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment.

The Job Opening is for an Assistant Project Officer to support the JOSP Somalia project. JOSP (Joint Programme on Strengthening the Rule of Law in Somalia) aims to enhance the capacity of Somali institutions to deliver justice and security services to the population.

Responsibilities

The Assistant Project Officer will be responsible for:

  • Assisting in the planning, implementation, and monitoring of project activities.
  • Supporting the preparation of project reports, work plans, and budgets.
  • Coordinating with national counterparts, UN agencies, and other stakeholders.
  • Organizing and facilitating project meetings, workshops, and training events.
  • Conducting research and analysis on relevant issues.
  • Providing administrative and logistical support to the project team.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A Master's degree in a relevant field such as International Relations, Law, Political Science, Development Studies, or a related discipline. A Bachelor's degree with significant relevant experience may be considered.
  • At least two years of relevant professional experience in project support, programme management, or a related field, preferably in a development or humanitarian context.
  • Familiarity with the Somali context and the rule of law sector is an asset.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in English. Knowledge of Somali language is an advantage.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
