Background

The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is the United Nations agency mandated to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all and sustainable human settlements development. UN-Habitat works in over 90 countries and at the city level to realize this mandate.

Responsibilities

The Associate Programme Management Officer will be responsible for a range of duties including but not limited to:

  • Assisting in the planning, development, and implementation of programme activities.
  • Monitoring and evaluating programme progress, identifying challenges and proposing solutions.
  • Contributing to the preparation of programme reports, proposals, and other documentation.
  • Supporting the coordination of activities with national governments, local authorities, and other stakeholders.
  • Conducting research and analysis on human settlements issues.
  • Providing administrative and logistical support to the programme team.

Qualifications

Candidates should possess:

  • An advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in urban planning, development studies, social sciences, public administration, or a related field. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree.
  • A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in programme management, development cooperation, or a related area.
  • Experience in the field of human settlements, urban development, or sustainable development is desirable.
  • Excellent analytical, research, and writing skills.
  • Proficiency in English is required. Knowledge of other UN languages is an asset.
