Background

The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is the United Nations agency mandated to promote sustainable urban development and transformation. UN-Habitat is the focal point for human settlements and urbanization within the UN system.

Responsibilities

Under the overall guidance of the Director, and the direct supervision of the relevant Programme Manager, the Associate Programme Management Officer will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Assist in the planning, development, and management of UN-Habitat programmes and projects in line with the agency's strategic priorities and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
  • Support the preparation of programme and project documents, including work plans, budgets, and performance frameworks.
  • Monitor the implementation of programmes and projects, track progress against objectives, and identify potential challenges and risks.
  • Assist in the preparation of progress reports, donor reports, and other relevant documentation.
  • Contribute to the identification of new programme opportunities and the development of funding proposals.
  • Support the coordination of activities with national governments, local authorities, civil society organizations, and other UN agencies.
  • Undertake field missions to monitor project implementation and provide technical assistance as required.
  • Contribute to knowledge management and sharing of lessons learned.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in urban planning, development studies, public administration, social sciences, or a related field. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Experience

A minimum of two years of progressively responsible professional experience in programme or project management, preferably in the field of human settlements, urban development, or international development. Experience in data analysis, monitoring and evaluation, and report writing is desirable.

Skills

  • Strong analytical and conceptual thinking skills.
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

This is a Fixed Term Limited (FTL) appointment.
