Background

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading environmental authority in the United Nations system. It sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the UN system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment.

Responsibilities

The Associate Programme Management Officer will be responsible for supporting the planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of UNEP's programmes and projects. Key responsibilities include:

  • Assisting in the development of programme strategies and work plans.
  • Monitoring the progress of projects against objectives and timelines.
  • Preparing progress reports and other programme-related documentation.
  • Supporting the coordination of activities with implementing partners and stakeholders.
  • Contributing to the identification and mitigation of programme risks.
  • Providing administrative and logistical support for programme activities.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • An advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in environmental science, international relations, public administration, or a related field. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree.
  • A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in programme or project management, preferably within an international organization or the environmental sector.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in English is required. Knowledge of other UN languages is an asset.
