Position Summary

The Automobile Mechanic will be responsible for carrying out vehicle diagnostics, preventive maintenance, corrective repairs, accident repairs, reconditioning, breakdown rescue operations, and general workshop support. The role requires strong technical knowledge of mechanical and electrical vehicle systems, safe use of tools and equipment, and commitment to quality workmanship and customer satisfaction.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Vehicle Inspection, Diagnosis & Repair: Inspect vehicles, diagnose mechanical and electrical faults, and carry out repairs using appropriate tools, procedures, and diagnostic equipment.
  • Preventive & Corrective Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance including oil changes, tire checks, suspension repairs, brake system repairs, fuel system repairs, and other preventive services to reduce breakdowns and improve vehicle reliability.
  • Breakdown Rescue & On-Site Repairs: Respond to vehicle breakdowns, conduct accurate diagnostics, and provide timely on-site repairs where applicable.
  • Accident Repairs & Reconditioning: Carry out accident repair assessments, chassis straightening, fender repairs, paintwork support, engine overhaul, gearbox overhaul, differential repairs, and replacement of worn-out parts.
  • Pre-Delivery Inspection: Conduct PDI on new vehicles to ensure they meet required safety, quality, and operational standards before handover.
  • Workshop Safety & Housekeeping: Observe all safety precautions, use PPE correctly, follow safe work methods, maintain clean work areas, and ensure tools and workshop equipment are used properly.
  • Quality Control & Compliance: Follow preventive maintenance plans, conduct vehicle condition checks, identify hidden or developing faults, and ensure repair work meets required quality standards.
  • Reporting & Teamwork: Work closely with supervisors, colleagues, suppliers, and other stakeholders to complete assigned tasks efficiently and support workshop operations.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Preferably Artisan Grade 1 or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years’ proven experience as an Auto Mechanic.
  • Valid driving license is required.
  • Excellent knowledge of mechanical and electrical vehicle components.
  • Ability to handle various workshop tools, equipment, and diagnostic systems.
  • Ability to follow established procedures, work instructions, and safety practices.
  • Readiness to be stationed in Nairobi, Mombasa, or Kisumu.

  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Commitment to quality workmanship and customer satisfaction.
  • Strong knowledge of health and safety procedures in a workshop environment.
