Background information about the job or company

Our client, an NGO running a secondary school in Narok County wishes to a dynamic and passionate Chemistry and Physics Teacher & Lab Technician to join their team of educators. As a teacher, you will play a crucial role in fostering a love for learning and promoting a deep understanding of both Chemistry and Physics among the students. You will also provide support as the Lab Technician, specifically to strengthen the delivery of science practicals.

Responsibilities or duties

  • Develop and deliver comprehensive lesson plans for Chemistry and Physics topics, aligning with curriculum standards and educational objectives.
  • Employ innovative teaching methods to make complex Chemistry and Physics concepts accessible and relatable to students.
  • Facilitate interactive classroom discussions, encourage critical thinking, and promote problem-solving skills.
  • Provide individualized support and guidance to students, addressing their academic needs and challenges.
  • Utilize a variety of teaching tools, technologies, and resources to enhance the learning experience.
  • Design and administer assessments to measure student understanding and progress, adapting teaching strategies accordingly.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages collaboration and respectful behavior.
  • Collaborate with fellow educators and administrators to develop and refine the curriculum, ensuring its effectiveness and relevance.
  • Stay updated with current educational trends, research, and best practices in Chemistry and Physics instruction.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to continuously enhance teaching skills and subject matter expertise.
  • Mentor learners towards self-reliance and good morals focused on positive cultures.
  • Plan and execute hands-on experiments to illustrate key principles in Chemistry and physics and ensure a safe laboratory environment by enforcing safety protocols and providing guidance on the proper use of equipment.
  • Maintain accurate records of experiments, results, and student performance, facilitating effective assessment.
  • Adhere to the TSC teaching professional Code of Conduct as well as the organization’s Professional Code of Conduct as outlined in the HR manual.
  • Ensure the Labs have an updated inventory always.
  • Liaise with subject facilitators in preparation of lab requisitions termly.
  • Prepare chemicals and set up apparatus for the practicals as required by the respective subject facilitators.
  • Ensure safety measures are always adhered to in the lab. This includes keeping the labs locked when not in use.
  • Ensure that the lab is always clean and organized.
  • Ensure chemical wastes are disposed of accordingly.

Qualifications or requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education Science.
  • Must have attained at least a C+ (Plus) mean grade at K.C.S.E and C+ in the two teaching subjects.
  • Must be registered with the Teachers Service Commission.
  • Demonstrate expertise in both Chemistry & Physics concepts, with a strong understanding of pedagogical strategies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Proficiency in utilizing technology for teaching purposes, including online learning platforms and educational software.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks while maintaining high teaching standards.
  • Patience, creativity, and a genuine passion for inspiring a love of learning in students.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to accommodate different learning styles and adapt to changing educational landscapes.

Experience needed

  • At least 2 years’ experience in service.
  • Prior experience in teaching, tutoring, or facilitating Chemistry & Physics education at various levels.
