Jhpiego is the lead implementing partner for Afya Halisi, USAID's five-year project which aims to deliver quality, integrated services in the areas of family planning (FP)/reproductive, maternal, newborn, child and adolescent health (RMNCAH), nutrition, and water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) in the focus counties of Kitui, Migori, Kakamega and Kisumu.
We are seeking an experienced individual with excellent organizational and technical skills, who is a team player, dedicated, hardworking, innovative, highly motivated and able to work in a high-pressure environment requiring multi-tasking abilities.
Reporting to the Country Director, the Chief of Party (COP) will provide vision, leadership and direction to ensure the strategic, programmatic, technical and financial integrity of the Afya Halisi project in family planning/ reproductive, maternal, newborn, child and adolescent health (FP/RMNCAH), nutrition and WASH thematic areas in Kenya. S/he will be responsible for making key decisions and solving problems in short timeframes while ensuring operational and program quality and integrity. S/he will serve as the project's main point of contact with USAID on routine and strategic matters. S/he will also ensure effective organizational management and communication with the host country government at all levels, and international partners and agencies. The position will be based in the Nairobi Office. .

  Job Responsibilities:
• Develop and maintain strong working relationships with USAID, the Government of Kenya's Ministry of Health, as well as implementing partners, private sector partners and other key stakeholders to maximize resources
• Ensure overall program, financial and monitoring objectives for the project are achieved, including implementation of annual work plans, dissemination of results and sharing of best practices.
• Provide technical leadership and ensure the quality and sustainability of interventions
• Represent Jhpiego and the project's progress, achievements and lessons learned to donors, other key stakeholders, and through meetings, conferences, and presentations
• Collaborate with project team to build capacity within FP/RMNCAH and WASH and nutrition services
• Lead the annual work planning process in close collaboration with USAID, Government of Kenya's Ministry of Health, and project team
• Mentor, support, supervise and manage a team of highly qualified staff and align their efforts to ensure rapid and sustainable results
• Provide guidance, in collaboration with staff, subcontractors and sub-grantees
• Write and/or review project materials and publications
• Work with Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) staff to develop M&E frameworks and effectively track data/ results Work closely with Jhpiego home office, partners and program teams to ensure effective, timely and quality evidence-based project implementation
• Ensure compliance with USAID operational policies and regulations
• Provide overall direction, supervision and motivation of project staff to ensure team work and timely implementation of activities.
• Review and/or contribute to reports and other project deliverables (eg, annual, semi-annual, performance monitoring reports, etc.)

Job Qualifications:
• Master's degree in public health, health administration/management, social services, international health, business administration or a related field; MD preferred. At least ten (10) years' experience in developing and managing complex public health program of similar scope and size as COP, DCOP or senior level management At least ten (10) years of demonstrated technical experience as senior staff in at least two of the following areas: MNCH; FP/RH; nutrition; AND demonstrated technical expertise in at least two of the following areas: quality improvement/quality assurance; health systems strengthening: M&E, and operations research
• Previous experience working in Kenya with intimate understanding of local health system and FP/RMNCAH gaps and opportunities, and solid relationships at government agencies
• Experience in health systems strengthening and capacity building, working closely with the national and county government and other partners
• 7+ years' experience in program management, administration and financial management
• In-depth knowledge USAID programs, regulations, compliance and reporting requirements
• Outstanding interpersonal skills, able to develop strong relationships across functions, abilities and work levels
• Demonstrated coaching & mentorship skills, with an ability to inspire, influence and motivate teams.
• Excellent communication skills - both verbal, written and presentation.
