Job Description
The Civil Engineering Lead is the technical lead of all matters to Civil Engineering. This includes all construction projects, building maintenance, road design & maintenance, water & wastewater design, treatment, reticulation & maintenance.
Responsibilities & Accountabilities
Project Planning & Execution
Take full ownership of planning, designing, and supervising civil engineering projects across tea plantations and factories, ensuring timely and quality delivery
Lead, mentor, and coordinate the civil engineering team and subcontractors, ensuring clear communication, accountability, and high performance
Maintain accurate records of project progress, technical specifications, site inspections, and prepare comprehensive reports for senior management
Infrastructure Development & Maintenance
Oversee construction and maintenance of plantation infrastructure such as roads, drainage, irrigation systems, retaining walls, and bridges, as well as factory buildings, processing units, and utilities
Assign and prioritize work orders and ensure timely completion of maintenance and repairs
Monitor and maintain workshop tools, machinery, and diagnostic equipment to ensure they are in good working order
Ensure a clean, organized, and safe working environment in compliance with health and safety regulations
Maintain records of EJR for tracking and reporting
Manage and review team performance
Staff Management
Supervise, train, and evaluate civil & construction staff, including carpenters, plumbers, masons, technicians, and support personnel
Schedule staff and allocate tasks according to their skill sets and workload
Provide ongoing professional development and technical training to enhance staff skills
Foster a team-oriented work environment, resolving conflicts, and motivating staff to meet performance targets
Inventory and Resource Management
Prepare detailed project budgets, control expenditures, and optimize resource allocation to meet financial targets without compromising quality
Collaborate with procurement to obtain the best pricing and quality of construction materials and vendors
Ensure cost-effective use of carpentry workshop resources while minimizing wastage
Quality Control & Assurance
Monitor construction quality and materials used, enforce company and industry standards, and conduct inspections to guarantee durability and safety of infrastructure
Implement and maintain quality control measures to ensure that all work is performed to the highest standards
Address any customer complaints regarding repair quality and implement corrective actions
Customer Service
Maintain a customer-centric approach, ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction
Provide regular updates to customers on the status of repairs and maintenance
Offer expert advice and solutions for complex civil/structural issues
Safety and Compliance
Ensure all civil works adhere strictly to safety standards, environmental regulations, and statutory requirements. Conduct regular site safety audits and implement corrective actions.
Ensure compliance with local regulations and industry standards regarding vehicle safety and emissions
Conduct regular safety inspections and enforce safety protocols within the workshop
Problem Solving & Innovation
Identify infrastructure-related issues, develop effective solutions, and introduce innovative techniques to improve operational efficiency and reduce costs
Promote and implement sustainable engineering practices such as soil conservation, water management, erosion control, and use of eco-friendly materials

Qualifications Required
Degree in Civil Engineering, or related field
Registration with EBK/IEK
7+ years of experience as Civil Engineer or equivalent, with at least 2 years in a management or supervisory role including demonstratable accountabilities in
Road construction & maintenance (KeRRA Class L/F/S/T/W roads or equivalent)
Manufacturing & Residential Building Construction and Maintenance
Construction end-to-end project management
Water Reticulation Design and Maintenance
Knowledge, Skills & Experience Required
Must demonstrate strong technical knowledge across all the construction sites’ processes and lines
Proven leadership skills & communication skills with experience managing multi-disciplinary teams and contractors
Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
Knowledge of health and safety regulations and best practices in construction environment
Proficient in using Civil Engineering software (AutoCAD, Ms Project), inventory management/ scheduling, and reporting software e.g., ERP systems
