Responsibilities or duties

  • Clean and disinfect floors, walls, doors, windows, ceilings, and other surfaces
  • Clean and disinfect patient rooms and public areas
  • Ensure proper waste segregation and disposal according to hospital infection control guidelines
  • Collect, sort, and safely dispose of medical and non-medical waste
  • Handle sharps and infectious waste carefully in line with safety procedures
  • Ensure waste bins are clean and emptied regularly
  • Clean and sanitize toilets, sinks, and bathrooms
  • Report any plumbing or maintenance issues promptly
  • Follow hospital infection prevention and control protocols strictly
  • Disinfect frequently touched surfaces to minimize the risk of infection
  • Collect, sort, and transport soiled linen to the laundry area
  • Assist in arranging furniture and equipment in patient care areas
  • Replenish cleaning materials and report shortages
  • Respond promptly to cleaning emergencies such as spills or contamination

Qualifications or requirements 

  • Be a Citizen of Kenya
  • Minimum of Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) or its equivalent
  • Secondary education (KCSE) is an added advantage
  • Ability to follow instructions and work under minimal supervision
  • Good personal hygiene and neat appearance
  • Physical fitness to perform cleaning duties
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Willingness to work in shifts, including weekends and holidays
  • Punctuality, honesty, and reliability

Experience needed

  • At least 1–2 years of experience in cleaning, preferably in a health facility or similar environment
