Outspan Hospital started operations with the establishment of an Out Patient Department on August 7, 2001. A month later, the In Patient Department was opened with a capacity of 21 beds.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • examine, diagnose and manage common oral and dental conditions
  • Carry out dental procedures such as tooth extractions, scaling and polishing, dental fillings, oral prophylaxis.
  • Educate patients on oral hygiene and preventive dental care
  • maintain accurate patient records and treatment documentation
  • ensure infection prevention and control measures are adhered to within the dental clinic
  • refer complicated dental procedures to dental surgeons and specialists
  • support and implement MOH oral health policies and standards

Qualifications and Experience

  • Diploma or Degree in Community Oral Health from a recognized institution.
  • Registration with a valid license from the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC)
  • Minimum of two (3) years’ post-internship experience
  • Certificate in Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Strong clinical skills and knowledge of dental hygiene, oral health, and infection prevention and control.
  • Proficiency in computer skills (especially Health Management Information Systems).

Other Skills & Competencies

  • Ability to perform basic dental procedures (examinations, extractions, prophylaxis, fluoride application).
  • Strong knowledge of oral disease prevention, health education, and community mobilization.
  • Attention to detail and strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and staying updated with industry advancements.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
