The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading environmental authority in the United Nations system. It sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the UN system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment.
Responsibilities or duties
The consultant will be expected to undertake the following tasks:
- Provide technical expertise and strategic advice on food systems transformation, sustainable agriculture, and related environmental issues.
- Support the development and implementation of projects and initiatives related to food systems and sustainable development.
- Conduct research, analysis, and synthesis of information on food systems, policy, and best practices.
- Facilitate stakeholder engagement and build partnerships with governments, civil society, private sector, and research institutions.
- Contribute to the preparation of reports, policy briefs, and other communication materials.
- Support the monitoring and evaluation of project activities and outcomes.
Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)
- Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in environmental science, sustainable development, agriculture, food systems, or a related field.
- Proven expertise in food systems analysis, sustainable agriculture, and environmental policy.
- Strong analytical, research, and writing skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Proficiency in English is required. Knowledge of other UN languages is an asset.
Experience needed
- A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in development coordination, food systems, or environmental affairs.
- Experience working with international organizations or UN agencies is desirable.

This is a consultancy position. The duration of the contract will be for a period of 11 months. The consultant will be based in Nairobi, Kenya.
