County Government of Kisumu invites applications from suitably qualified, motivated and pro- active individuals to fill vacancies in the following position:

Responsibilities or duties

  • Implementing policy on safe management of healthcare waste;
  • Coordinate all public health and sanitation health services and projects within the County Government of Kisumu;
  • Monitoring and evaluation of public health projects and programmes to ensure that their delivery is within the required public health standard;
  • Providing technical advice on Public Health matters to both CECM and Chief Officer Health Services;
  • Providing leadership in service delivery in the following areas: Public Health, Reproductive Health, New-born, Child, and Adolescent Health, Vaccines and Immunization, Nutrition and Dietetics, Community Strategy, Disease Surveillance among others;
  • Ensuring the implementation and Compliance of Cap 242 Laws of Kenya and any other Legislations on Public Health;
  • Developing and implement policies, guidelines, budgetary plans, strategies, programs, standards and procedures in the area of promotive, preventive and environmental health programmes;
  • Leading in the development and implementation of Strategic Plans as linked to Vision 2030 and Health Sector goals;
  • Ensuring notification of infectious diseases and administration of Quarantine for infectious diseases;
  • Coordinating preventive health programs including vector control, malaria, HIV/AIDS, TB;
  • Coordinating Public Health Research and Innovations;
  • Designing and conducting operations, research, analyse and utilize research findings in planning activities to improve service delivery;
  • Proficiency in computer application skills and
  • Coordinating Health Partners and other Private Partnership (under Public Health).

Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)

  • Be a Kenyan Citizen;
  • Bachelors Degree in any of the following disciplines: Environmental Health; Public Health or and equivalent qualification from a recognized Institution;
  • Masters Degree in any of the following disciplines: Environmental Health; Public Health; Epidemiology; Food Safety and Quality; Food Science and Technology; Community Health; Occupational Health and Safety; Health Promotion and Education; Solid Waste Management; Disaster Management or equivalent qualification from a recognized Institution;
  • Certificate in Strategic Leadership Development Programme lasting not less than six (6) weeks from a recognized institution;
  • Registered with the Public Health and Technicians Council (PHTC);
  • A valid practicing license from Public Health and Technicians Council (PHTC); and
  • Demonstrated a high degree of professional and managerial ability as reflected in work performance and results.

Experience needed

  • Cumulative service period of ten (10) relevant years' work experience, three (3) of which should be at the grade of Deputy Director, Public Health or in a comparable position;

  • Salary: Basic Salary Scale: Ksh 127,340–182,890 p.m.
  • House Allowance: Ksh 35,000/= per month
  • Commuter Allowance: Ksh 16,000/= per month
  • Leave Allowance: As provided in the Civil Service
  • Annual Leave: 30 working days
