Background information about the job or company
The Environmental Health and Safety Officer will ensure inspection and implementation and evaluation of the work environment, equipment and processes in working areas to ensure compliance with government safety regulations and industry standards. The goal for the role is to protect the employees, customers and the environment from any life hazard.
Responsibilities or duties
Work requirements and tasks will be guided by the laid down policies and procedures which will be reviewed periodically but will fall broadly in the following Key Performance Areas:
Environmental Health & Safety
- Ensure safety compliance to safety standards, both at the organization;
- Identify potentially hazardous biological, chemical and radiological materials and collect samples of them for analysis;
- Offer technical support to safety requirements and advisory to the management on safety issues;
- Investigate accidents to identify their causes and find ways to prevent them in the future;
- Carry out daily, weekly, monthly and annual inspections to all company assets and premises on as is where applicable to ensure safety;
- Carrying out surveillance and certifications audits towards ISO standards that the company is subscribed to;
- Risk assessments, safety analyses and mitigations; ensure WIBA, DOSH and OSHA compliance for all incidences;
- Coordinating of various contracts associated with the admin & Safety department as far as services provisions and supply is concerned;
- Coordinate the purchase, proper use, maintenance, and inspection of necessary safety and personal protective equipment;
- Prepare applicable EHS reports as necessary
- Provide assistance and advice on EHS issues to make recommendations to facility management.
- Offer technical support to teams working at various stations to ensure safety is enhanced.
- Coordinate various safety and health trainings for the teams.
- Oversight responsibility towards resources use and optimizations to ensure sustainability and cost-effectiveness.
- Linkage with statutory bodies and the business in terms compliance and advisory.
- Responsible for conducting environment and health related CSR activities such as tree planting on a quarterly basis;
- Any other roles allocated by line manager and or organisation
Facility Specific Responsibilities;
- Write, implement, and manage EHS Programs Policies and Procedures.
- Perform facility EHS inspections;
- To oversee Hazardous Waste Storage area and ensure regulatory agency compliance i.e. labeling, containment, proper disposal, documentation, etc.;
- Have knowledge and enforce compliance of regulatory requirements (e.g.. OSHA), including company EHS policies and procedures;
- Assist in emergency response and provide first aid treatment;
- Oversee Behavior Based / Observation Safety Programs;
- Help develop Job Hazard Analysis (JHA);
- Any other roles allocated by line manager and or organisation;
Qualifications or requirements
Experience needed
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental science, Occupational Health and Safety, or a related field;
- 6–8 years of experience in EHS roles is a must;
- Relevant EHS&S Certifications;
- Experience working in manufacturing and or industrial sectors;
- Familiarity with EHS&S software systems;
- Strong understanding of EHS management systems (such as ISO 14001, ISO 45001, OHSAS 18001);
- Experience in designing and implementing policies and procedures in line with local and international standards;
- Skilled in developing and maintaining environmental and safety compliance programs;
Personal Attributes;
- Self-motivated;
- Excellent interpersonal
- Excellent skills with Microsoft Office, Word, Excel etc.
- Ability to pay attention to detail;
- Good communication skills;
- Problem solving Skills.
- Ability to work odd hours on emergency;
