The successful candidates will report to the respective Senior Engineers in the various technical functions within the Company. The Engineers will undertake the following duties and responsibilities:

ICT - SCADA & TELECOMMUNICATION FUNCTION

  • Implement, maintain and oversee enforcement of policies, procedures and associated plans for Scada systems within the company business.
  • Maintain and strengthen the Company’s Scada system to ensure maximum returns on investment.
  • Proactively monitor safety operations during Scada maintenance and operation’s work.
  • Ensure that control, integration, compatibility and seamless flow of data is achieved through the Scada interconnectivity in line with business requirements.

NETWORK MANAGEMENT -POWER SYSTEM POTECTION

  • Ensure effective protection of transmission and distribution equipment in power system.
  • Coordinate design, installation and commissioning of protection schemes and control.
  • Advise on specifications for equipment and material used in power systems protection.
  • Develop and review protection philosophies and schemes (lines, transformers, busbars, generators, feeders).
  • Perform protection coordination studies.
  • Configure and test protection relays (distance, differential, overcurrent, etc.).
  • Verify and approve relay settings calculations.
  • Conduct fault analysis and post-event investigations.
  • Design and implement substation automation systems (SAS).
  • Configure IEC 61850-based systems: GOOSE and MMS
  • Develop control logic, interlocking schemes, and automation sequence

NETWORK MANAGEMENT - ELECTRICAL PLANT

  • Timely execution of maintenance schedules for Electrical Plant equipment.
  • Respond to power system failure involving electrical plant equipment and taking corrective action.
  • Ensure planning and review of transmission network maintenance schedules is done in good time.
  • Ensure implementation of effective and efficient maintenance activities on transmission network.

NETWORK MANAGEMENT - TRANSMISSION NETWORK

  • Coordinate activities of transmission teams to ensure efficient resolution of transmission system breakdowns and integrated maintenance effort.
  • Investigate operational and maintenance problems on transmission network and recommending appropriate solutions.
  • Develop and reviewing of transmission network operations and maintenance procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with standards and safety regulations governing transmission system maintenance work.
  • Develop and evaluate plans and criteria for transmission network improvement and equipment upgrade matching with changing technological environment.

NETWORK MANAGEMENT - NATIONAL CONTROL CENTRE

  • Carry out load management during emergencies to keep systems running in liaison with National Control Centre
  • Report system disturbances and performance of the distribution system.
  • Restore of the distribution Grid after system disturbances.
  • Facilitate, coordinate switch and sanction the issuance of safety documents for distribution Grid maintenance.

POWER PURCHASE & PLANNING

  • Preparing annual and long-term power and energy balances.
  • Assist in planning for power generation in line with power system development objectives.
  • Carrying out power generation studies and making recommendations for power utilisation.

Appointment Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical & Electronics Engineering from a recognized Institution.
  • A minimum of seven (7) years’ relevant work experience.
  • Registered as Graduate Engineer with Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK)
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities
  • Drive for results and achievement
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Project management skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
  • Creativity and Innovative thinking to develop effective solutions
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and Negotiation Skills
