An officer at this level will report to County Medical Officer of Health /Medical Superintendent

Responsibilities or duties

Duties and responsibilities at this level will entail:

• Providing comprehensive primary and continuing care to individuals and families across all ages, sexes and disease categories;
• Leading clinical management of complex outpatient and inpatient cases at facility level.
• Supervising, mentoring and providing clinical guidance to medical officers, clinical officers, nurses and community health teams;
• Supporting integrated, person-centred care across facility and community, including preventive, promotive and rehabilitative services;
• Participating in multidisciplinary team meetings, clinical audits, morbidity & mortality reviews;
• Strengthening referral systems, emergency care and continuity of care between primary, county and national referral levels;
• Contributing to training, capacity building, clinical guidelines implementation and quality improvement initiatives;
• Supporting health data collection, reporting and use for decision-making; and
• Participating in outreach, community health promotion and public health emergency response when required.

Requirements for appointments

For appointment to this grade a candidate must have:

• Kenyan Citizenship
• Bachelors Degree in the following discipline: Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (BChB) or equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution;
• Masters Degree in the following disciplines: – Master of Medicine and Surgery (MChB) or equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution;
• Postgraduate qualification in Family Medicine (M. Med Family Medicine) from a recognized institution.
• Certificate in Management Course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution
• Registration Certificate by the Kenya Medical Practitioners’ and Dentists’ Council (KMPDC);
• Valid practicing license from Kenya Medical Practitioners’ and Dentists’ Council (KMPDC);
• Retention in the Medical Practitioners and Dentist Council register;
• Specialist recognition certificate from the medical practitioners and Kenya Medical Practitioners’ and Dentists’ Council;
• Professional indemnity; and
• Proficiency in computer applications skills.

Experience needed

Cumulative service period of six (6) years relevant work experience, three (3) of which should have been at the grade of Principal Medical Officer or in a comparable position;

Those with foreign Degrees should have them authenticated by Commission for University Education (CUE). In addition, during the interview, they will be required to submit their academic certificates authenticated by the issuing Institutions to the Board.
