Background

The Kenya Forest Service (KFS) has announced 21 job categories offering a combined 171 permanent and pensionable positions across forestry, security, finance and accounts, human resource management, information and communication technology, geographic information systems, survey and mapping, corporate communication, office administration and general support services. The vacancies provide career progression opportunities across different KFS grades, ranging from Grade 11 positions to senior Grade 5 roles. The available opportunities include Office Assistants, Corporals, Sergeants, Office Administrator Assistants, Foresters, Finance and Accounts Officers, Superintendents, Conservators of Forests, GIS Officers, ICT Officers, Human Resource Management Officers and other senior and principal-level positions. Applicants should note that the current recruitment exercise is an internal recruitment process. The advertised positions are strictly for eligible Kenya Forest Service staff, and external applicants are not eligible to apply. All the positions listed below are permanent and pensionable, and applications must be submitted by 14 September 2026.

Responsibilities

Forester II officers support implementation of forestry programmes and field activities across areas managed by Kenya Forest Service. The position combines forest management, plantation activities, community engagement and conservation support.

Duties and responsibilities include:

• Maintaining accountable forestry documents and records.
• Preparing duty schedules for fire suppression, nursery and field operations.
• Preparing work programmes, community action plans and progress reports.
• Undertaking forest advisory activities to promote good farm forestry practices.
• Conducting survival counts and supporting replanting and mapping of plantation areas.
• Implementing silvicultural prescriptions in accordance with technical requirements.
• Providing technical support on devolved forestry functions.
• Supporting tree-planting activities in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
• Promoting private commercial forestry, wood-energy conservation, forest-based enterprises and ecotourism.
• Disseminating information on appropriate forestry practices.
• Promoting public service values and principles.
• Mentoring and coaching staff to improve performance.
