GYNAECOLOGIST
Job Title: Gynaecologist (Obstetrician & Gynaecologist)
Department: Clinical Services – Obstetrics & Gynaecology
Reports To: Medical Superintendent / Head of Clinical Services
Job Purpose
To provide comprehensive specialist obstetric and gynaecological care by diagnosing, treating, and managing conditions affecting women's reproductive health while ensuring safe maternal and neonatal outcomes in accordance with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) standards and hospital policies.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose and manage obstetric and gynaecological conditions.
- Conduct antenatal, intrapartum, postnatal, and gynaecological clinics.
- Perform elective and emergency surgical procedures including Caesarean sections, hysterectomies, laparotomies, and other gynaecological surgeries.
- Manage obstetric emergencies and high-risk pregnancies.
- Provide family planning, infertility, menopausal, and reproductive health services.
- Participate in multidisciplinary ward rounds and patient reviews.
- Supervise junior doctors, interns, clinical officers, and nursing staff.
- Ensure accurate and timely documentation of patient records.
- Participate in clinical audits, mortality reviews, quality improvement initiatives, and continuing medical education.
- Maintain compliance with infection prevention and control standards.
- Participate in the hospital's on-call rota and emergency response services.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) from a recognized institution.
- Master of Medicine (MMed) in Obstetrics and Gynaecology or equivalent specialist qualification.
- Registered and licensed by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC).
- Valid practising licence.
- At least 3 years' post-specialization experience is an added advantage.
- Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) is desirable.
