St Christopher’s International School is a values‑driven day and boarding school, educating pupils from Kindergarten to Year 13. Grounded in a Christian ethos that is values‑based and pupil‑centred, we challenge each learner to strive for excellence within a caring community. We are CIS, COBIS & BSA accredited and proud of a holistic approach that balances strong academics, character education and wellbeing.
The Head of Preparatory will provide strategic and day‑to‑day leadership of our 5–11 provision (Key Stages 1–2). Working in close partnership with the Executive Headmaster, you will drive the SCIS strategic plan, aligning Prep priorities to whole‑school goals, ensuring outstanding teaching and learning, exemplary pastoral care and a rich co‑curricular programme. You will also embrace and champion our ‘three sections, one school’ model across Kindergarten, Preparatory and Secondary.
The role — you will
- Partner with the Executive Headmaster to drive the SCIS strategic plan, translating whole‑school priorities into Prep execution and measurable impact; line‑managed by the Executive Headmaster.
- Champion our ‘three sections, one school’ model, strengthening continuity and collaboration across Kindergarten, Preparatory and Secondary (curricular, pastoral and co‑curricular).
- Lead vision & culture: Model and embed SCIS values, Christian ethos and a culture of kindness, ambition and service.
- Secure academic excellence: Lead curriculum, assessment and pedagogy across KS1–2; use evidence‑informed practice to ensure progression for all learners.
- Champion wellbeing & safeguarding: Ensure outstanding pastoral care; own Prep safeguarding practice, training and compliance; work closely with DSLs and the counselling/wellbeing teams.
- Grow people: Recruit, develop and appraise staff; build a collaborative, high‑performing team with purposeful CPD.
- Run operations well: Oversee timetabling, budgets, resourcing, compliance and risk; contribute to whole‑school strategy as a key member of SLT.
- Be community‑minded: Be a visible, approachable presence; engage parents and external partners; act as an ambassador for SCIS locally and internationally.
About you
- A proven leader as a Headteacher or Deputy in a preparatory/primary (independent or international) context, with the credibility to set direction and the humility to build consensus.
- Fully buy into—and actively champion—our ‘three sections, one school’ model across phases.
- Committed to holistic education and the flourishing of every child—academically, socially, spiritually and physically.
- Strong safeguarding knowledge and a steadfast commitment to wellbeing and inclusion.
- Evidence of raising standards through curriculum, assessment and pedagogy; confident with data‑informed improvement.
- An outstanding communicator, able to inspire staff, work closely with parents and represent the school with warmth and clarity.
- A Master’s degree in Education or Educational Leadership and/or other professional qualifications such as NPQH/NPQSL are desirable. Experience with COBIS and CIS standards, as well as familiarity with the East Africa or similar international contexts, will be advantageous.
Why join SCIS?
- A thriving, CIS, COBIS & BSA‑accredited international school committed to continuous improvement and global best practice.
- A happy, purposeful Preparatory School with breadth in the British KS1–2 curriculum and a vibrant co‑curricular offer (clubs, music, sport, trips).
- A warm, inclusive community with strong pastoral care, underpinned by Values‑Based Education (VBE) across the school.
- Part of a day and boarding community whose provision has been approved against BSA, COBIS and CIS standards.
- A genuinely all‑through environment (Kindergarten, Preparatory, Secondary) living our ‘three sections, one school’ ethos—rich cross‑phase collaboration and shared CPD.
- Competitive remuneration; relocation support and tuition discount
- Safeguarding & safer recruitment
