Shalom Hospital was established in 1992 as a small clinic in a rented house in Mutituni. It grew progressively, transforming into Dr. Onyango Nursing Home in 1998. Undaunted by challenges, Shalom Hospital Machakos opened its doors in 2002 as a fully-fledged private hospital with a mission to provide quality, affordable, and accessible healthcare to the community. Job Purpose
The Hospital Administrator will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day administrative, operational, and financial functions of Shalom Hospital – Kisumu Branch. The role ensures efficient service delivery, operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement in patient care and business growth.
Key Responsibilities
Administrative and Operational Leadership
- Provide overall administrative and operational support to ensure smooth running of the hospital.
- Develop and implement strategies for process improvement, efficiency, and business growth.
- Enforce customer service excellence standards to ensure outstanding patient experiences.
- Coordinate the development and implementation of work plans, targets, and performance reports.
- Ensure adherence to SHG (Shalom Healthcare Group) standards, rules, and regulations.
- Supervise all departments including Human Resources, Finance, ICT, Nursing, Housekeeping, Catering, and Security to ensure effective performance.
- Oversee asset management and inventory control, ensuring prudent utilization of hospital resources.
Financial and Business Management
- Oversee revenue collection, identify and close gaps for wastage and fraud prevention.
- Promote prudent cost management to optimize operational efficiency.
- Supervise budgeting, expenditure control, and financial reporting for the branch.
- Lead and monitor sales and marketing activities, ensuring clear targets are set and met to drive business growth.
- Coordinate business process re-engineering to enhance operational effectiveness.
Human Resource and Performance Management
- Coordinate implementation of the performance appraisal system across all departments.
- Ensure staff welfare programs are implemented and managed according to hospital policies.
- Manage staff recruitment, induction, discipline, motivation, and retention.
- Identify training and development needs to enhance staff competence and productivity.
Facility and Support Services Management
- Ensure security systems and personnel effectively safeguard hospital property and staff.
- Oversee housekeeping and catering services, maintaining high standards of cleanliness and service quality.
- Ensure preventive maintenance and timely repair of biomedical and non-medical equipment.
- Monitor hospital infrastructure to ensure compliance with safety, health, and quality standards.
Compliance and Quality Assurance
- Ensure compliance with all statutory regulations, health standards, and licensing requirements.
- Promote continuous quality improvement through regular audits, reviews, and corrective actions.
- Carry out customer satisfaction surveys and implement action plans to improve service delivery.
- Coordinate corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives that enhance the hospital’s community impact and brand visibility.
Communication and External Relations
- Manage media and public relations for the Kisumu branch in alignment with corporate guidelines.
- Maintain positive relationships with clients, community leaders, regulators, and business partners.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Management, or related field.
- A Master’s degree in Healthcare Management or Business Administration (MBA) will be an added advantage.
- Minimum of 5 years’ progressive experience in hospital administration or operations management in a busy healthcare setting.
- Proven experience in financial management, HR oversight, and service delivery improvement.
- Strong understanding of healthcare laws, compliance standards, and hospital operations.
