Responsibilities or duties

  • Monitor all HR activities and practices to ensure compliance with statutory requirements and company policies; keep abreast of the legal environment and ensure senior staff are aware of all relevant requirements.
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve HR operational processes, workflows, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Ensure HR administration, including contracts, onboarding, offboarding, employee records, and leave management, is executed accurately and on time.
  • Maintain robust HR documentation, audit trails, and records management practices to support compliance and governance.
  • Manage employee relations matters and provide advice and guidance to managers and supervisors on labour laws and related market practices to ensure a harmonious work environment.
  • Drive grievance resolution and ensure all pertinent issues are addressed in a fair, confidential, and transparent manner, ideally before escalation to legal proceedings.
  • Where disputes become legal matters, support cases through the timely provision of information to compliance and legal teams and attend legal proceedings as appropriate.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of evolving labour legislation and proactively advise management on implications for the business.
  • Monitor HR service delivery metrics and take corrective action where performance gaps are identified.
  • Partner with departmental heads to anticipate workforce needs and manage the end-to-end recruitment and selection process for all approved vacancies, ensuring hiring practices comply with applicable law and company policy.
  • Maintain and manage the approved headcount establishment, flagging variances and supporting workforce planning conversations with senior management.
  • Oversee onboarding programmes to ensure new employees are effectively integrated into the business.
  • Coordinate and support the annual performance appraisal cycle, equipping managers with the tools and guidance needed to conduct effective reviews.
  • Advise and support managers in addressing poor performance cases in line with company policy and the Employment Act, ensuring due process is followed consistently.
  • Coordinate the annual training needs analysis and maintain the training calendar in collaboration with departmental heads.
  • Track completion of statutory and mandatory training — including safety inductions and role-specific certifications — and report on compliance.
  • Support individual development planning in line with performance outcomes and succession priorities.
  • Partner with the HSE function to embed a strong safety culture across the workforce, ensuring HR-related obligations under the Occupational Safety and Health Act are met.
  • Compile and present accurate HR operational reports covering headcount, turnover, absenteeism, disciplinary trends, and compliance status.
  • Maintain and interrogate HR data systems to provide insights that inform decision-making at the senior management level.
  • Identify patterns and workforce risks through data analysis and recommend proactive interventions.

Qualifications or requirements 

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resource management, Business Administration, or a related field (a Master's degree is an added advantage).
  • Membership of the Institute of Human Resource Management (IHRM) Kenya is required.

Experience needed

  • Minimum 6–8 years of progressive HR experience, with at least 3 years in an HR management/ Managerial role.
  • Demonstrable experience managing HR operations in a large-scale, multi-site or manufacturing environment.
  • Solid, hands-on experience navigating the Kenyan labour legislative framework, including the Employment Act 2007, the Labour Relations Act, and OSHA compliance.
  • Experience working alongside or managing relationships with external HR consultants, service providers, or shared service functions.
