Background

The Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) is committed to providing young people with opportunities to acquire and sharpen their knowledge, as well as gain technical and practical skills that complement their studies and enhance their employability in line with Kenya Vision 2030.

The KEMRI Internship Program (KIP) seeks to develop a pool of young talent adequately exposed to working in the research industry. Upon completion of the planned one-year internship program, candidates will have gained practical workplace experience, giving them a competitive edge in their job search.

KEMRI invites applications from dynamic and innovative individuals to fill the following project contract position under the Department of Epidemiology, Statistics and Informatics (DESI):

Position: Intern – Bachelor of Science in Biostatistics

Department: Epidemiology, Statistics and Informatics (DESI)

Duration: One (1) year, non-renewable

Type of Contract: Project-based (subject to availability of funds)

Scope of Training and Responsibilities

The intern will receive training and gain exposure in the following areas:

  • Implementation of research projects and/or supervision of designated aspects of research work.
  • Conducting fieldwork and laboratory experimental procedures.
  • Organization and coordination of internal scientific seminars.
  • Interpretation and validation of research results.
  • Maintaining the scientific laboratory in good working condition.
  • Ensuring proper storage of chemicals, reagents, and consumables within the laboratory.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Be a Kenyan youth below 30 years of age.
  • Have graduated and obtained the relevant final certificate in Bachelor of Science in Biostatistics.
  • Provide a valid Certificate of Good Conduct.

Internship Terms and Conditions

The appointment is for a period of one (1) year and is non-renewable.

The engagement is subject to availability of funds.

A stipend will be paid during the internship period.

Successful candidates will be responsible for their own transport, accommodation, and upkeep.

Interns will be required to take up personal accident insurance and medical insurance cover at their own cost.

KEMRI and/or the project will not offer employment upon completion of the internship.

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
