Background
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading environmental authority in the United Nations system. It sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the UN system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment.
This internship is within the Information Technology Unit of UNEP. The IT Unit is responsible for providing a wide range of IT services and support to UNEP staff globally, ensuring the smooth operation of IT infrastructure, systems, and applications.
Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the IT Officer, the intern will be expected to perform the following duties:
- Assist in the installation, configuration, and maintenance of computer hardware and software.
- Provide first-level IT support to end-users, troubleshooting hardware, software, and network issues.
- Help in managing user accounts and access permissions.
- Support the IT team in managing IT assets and inventory.
- Assist in the preparation of IT documentation and user guides.
- Participate in IT projects as assigned.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications
To qualify for an internship at the United Nations Environment Programme, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Be enrolled in, or have recently completed, a degree programme in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field at a university or equivalent institution.
- Possess a demonstrable interest in the field of Information Technology and sustainable development.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Basic knowledge of computer hardware, software, and network troubleshooting.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of other UN languages is an asset.
Experience
No prior work experience is required for this internship. However, any relevant experience in IT support or related fields will be considered an advantage.
Additional Information
This is a full-time internship position. Interns receive a stipend to help cover basic living expenses. The internship is for an initial period of 3 months, with the possibility of extension up to 6 months.
