Under the overall supervision of the Gender Programme Management Officer and the day-to-day supervision of the Gender Associate Officer the intern will be responsible for the following:
- Support the Quality Assurance Section on the implementation of UN Disability Inclusion Strategy and SDGs 1 and 10 as well as functioning of CAG and PRC, organization of capacity strengthening workshops, youth-related activities and other QA's activities.
- Carry out research and summarize key developments and emerging trends related to gender and/or safeguards and the environment.
- Participate in group discussions and contribute insights, ideas and feedback on key topics and emerging issues in this field, including mainstreaming of gender and safeguards (social and environmental).
- Provide support to the Quality Assurance Section of the Policy and Programme Division and assist with planning and coordinating meetings and joint events, with partners including various relevant UN Observances.
- Analyzes and monitors the use and uptake of gender, safeguards and Quality Assurance information on the UNEP Gender/Safeguards and Quality Assurance we Collaborate page.
- Draft impact stories and messages for UNEP digital platforms and for other communications opportunities.
- Support with monitoring and analysis of information uploaded on Open Data Portal and prepare draft reports on the findings.
- Support with the community of practice and capacity strengthening workshops and assessment (gender and disability inclusion). Contribute to preparations for presentations, analysis and visualization of the findings, etc.
- Support the preparation of various presentations, using Power Point and/or Canva and other relevant software.
- Performs other duties as required.
Qualifications/special skills
A university degree in Gender Studies, Human Rights, Sociology, Environmental Science, Sustainable Development, or related field with course work in areas such as gender studies, environmental and social impact assessment, impact measurement labour issues, community health and safety, Indigenous rights / Local Communities and Indigenous Peoples, disability rights, inclusion, minority studies, and poverty analysis Applicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:
- Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (university degree or equivalent, or higher) or be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent).
- Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation.
Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work. Experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Programme.
