Company Overview

The Mater Hospital was opened in 1962 by the Sisters of Mercy, a Catholic Order of Nuns originating from Ireland, three years after registering themselves as the Registered Trustees of an entity under the Perpetual Succession Act (the succeeding legislation after independence). 

Main Duties:

  • Analyzing patient’s specimen and give results within acceptable TAT
  • Screening all blood for viral markers and provide accurate results to the Doctor
  • Monitoring reagents to ensure the section has enough supplies and utilization is within the budgetary allocation.
  • Performing quality controls to monitor the bias and performance for the Department.
  • Reporting faulty equipment to the maintenance department for repairs.
  • Monitoring performance in the unit and communicating challenges in good time to ensure high quality Results are achieved at all times.
  • Assisting in training Phlebotomist and students on attachment
  • Assisting in bleeding patients and donors when required.
  • Marketing services offered in the department.
  • Liaising with the Laboratory Manager on new laboratory procedures to ensure that laboratory is abreast With the fast-developing technology.
  • Laboratory Section Quality Representatives with duties as assigned by the Laboratory Quality officer
  • Participating in quality improvement initiatives within the department and providing reports as required.
  • Any other duty assigned from time to time

Required Qualifications for the Position

  • BSc Medical Laboratory Technologist/ Higher National Diploma
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a busy ISO 15189-accredited laboratory.
  • Registered with KMLTTB with a valid practicing license
  • Keen on detail with a high degree of accuracy
  • Outstanding communication skills
  • Computer Literacy
