- The Lecturer in Psychology & Community Health & Development will contribute to teaching, research, student mentorship, and community engagement in both psychology and community health disciplines. The role requires an academic with interdisciplinary expertise who can bridge mental health, behavioral sciences, and public/community health to advance holistic learning, research, and service.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Teaching & Learning
- Deliver lectures, tutorials, and practical sessions in Psychology, Public Health, and Community Development courses.
- Develop, review, and update curricula, teaching materials, and assessments in line with Commission for University Education (CUE) standards.
- Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students’ projects, theses, and dissertations.
- Apply innovative pedagogy, including digital and case-based teaching methods.
Research & Scholarship
- Conduct individual and collaborative research in psychology, mental health, and community health & development.
- Publish in refereed journals and present at national and international academic conferences.
- Seek external research funding and participate in interdisciplinary research projects.
- Mentor students in research methodology, data analysis, and academic writing.
Community Engagement & Professional Service
- Participate in outreach and consultancy programs addressing mental health, psychosocial support, and community health needs.
- Provide technical input for policy development in health and mental health systems.
- Build collaborations with government, NGOs, and development partners in health and psychology fields.
University Service & Administration
- Serve on departmental, school, or university committees as required.
- Support academic planning, program accreditation, and quality assurance initiatives.
- Mentor students and support their professional and personal growth.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- A PhD in Psychology, Community Health, Public Health, Development Studies, or a closely related field from a recognized institution; OR a Master’s degree in Psychology/Community Health with at least three (3) years of university teaching/research experience and evidence of PhD enrolment.
- At least two (2) publications in refereed journals or equivalent scholarly works.
- Demonstrated teaching and student supervision experience.
- Experience in curriculum design and program accreditation.
- Membership in a relevant professional body (e.g.,APA, Kenya Psychological
- Association, Public Health Society, Counselling Association) is desirable.

- Strong research, grant writing, and academic publishing capacity.
