Main Purpose of Job:

To develop, manage and monitor the implementation of the Department of Nursing and Midwifery programs and related activities in the University. These include, but are not limited to, teaching and training, curriculum development and review; research, innovation and fund-raising activities; publication and dissemination of knowledge; supervision and coordination of programs in the department; supervision of students and the adherence to or quality assurance and accreditation requirements by relevant regulatory bodies. The holder of this post will report to the Head of Department in the execution of their duties and will contribute toward meeting the department's key performance indicators and targets, including the overall University mission and vision.

Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)

Required Qualifications and experience.

  • Master of Science in Midwifery.
  • Must be enrolled as a PhD student.
  • Must hold a valid practice license.
  • Must be registered with the Nursing Council of Kenya.
  • At least 5 years teaching in nursing training and at least 2 years’ experience in clinical practice.
  • Experience in curriculum development and evaluation and supporting a virtual learning environment.

  • Interpersonal skills.
  • Report writing skills.
  • IT skills.
  • Integrity, commitment, and respect for diversity.

  • Engage in research and extension activities
  • Engage in fundraising activities in the Department
  • Student supervision and mentoring
  • Engage in professional development activities
  • Engage in any other duties that may be assigned by the Head of Department, on behalf of the Vice Chancellor, from time to time.
