Background

LVCT Health is an indigenous Kenyan non-governmental and not-for-profit organization established in 2001. We are driving Kenya towards HIV prevention, with an ultimate goal of reducing HIV infections to zero. We offer integrated HIV services through development of models that are scaled up to the national models. We also carry out sexual and reproductive health research - translating our research to policy and practice; providing evidence for HIV policy reforms and service delivery; and developing capacities of indigenous organizations in building sustainable human resources for community HIV Prevention. We give special attention to those with greatest vulnerability to infection and with special service needs - including survivors of sexual violence, persons living with disabilities, men who have sex with men, Youth and Sex Workers. Our offices are in Nairobi, Western Region, Eastern and Central Region and Rift Valley.

JOB PURPOSE

Provide health care services in project supported facilities leading to the achievement of the 95:95:95 targets. Working with other health workers and project staff to provide quality HIV services according to MOH guidelines.

KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support and provide guidance to HTS Treatment Preparation in provision of HTS and adherence counselling services at the facility.
  • Ensure that the facility achieve 95% linkage for clients who are identified to be HIV positive.
  • Ensure immediate initiation of ART with a target of 100% for HIV positive clients as per the national guidelines.
  • Provide quality of HIV care services to clients at the facility.
  • Strengthen/establish appointment management system and defaulter identification and tracking system to ensure 95% retention of clients on ART.
  • Monitoring of clients on ART is especially viral load measurement as per the guidelines.
  • Work with other facility staffs to implement the differentiated care model.
  • Ensure proper patient record keeping on ART, Kenya EMR and other records according to the M.O.H guidelines and stock keeping on all drugs at the CCC.
  • Coordinate On-the-Job Training (OJT) of all health service provider.
  • Ensure there is a system in place to track all missed appointments and treatment interrupters (IITs),use HIFADHI to track progress in IITs
  • Ensure coordination of clinical activities with the laboratory (Clinical Laboratory interphase), data entry staff, nurse and counsellor.
  • Takes leadership in categorizing patients and initiating DCM (Differentiated care model services at the facility)
  • Lead the team in PrEP/SGBV services
  • Adhere to established standards of practices for Clinical Officers as per regulatory bodies
  • Prepare and implement annual work plan based on department work plan.
  • Assist in the monitoring and evaluation of the HIV program at the facility.
  • Establish a work improvement team (WIT) for the department and ensure monthly meetings are taking place to discuss the quality of care given to clients.
  • Initiate Quality Improvement Projects on low performing indicators or Quality of service
  • Establish/strengthen Multi-Disciplinary Team to discuss complex and/or treatment failure clients and recommend next course of action.
  • Ensure MDTs and case discussion at the facilities are done and contribute to TWG meetings
  • Prepare individual monthly, Quarterly and annual work plan based on department work plan.
  • Provide regular reports to the facility in charge and to USAID Stawisha Pwani.
  • Use your job description and work plan to continually appraise yourself and rectify any shortcomings or suggest necessary assistance.
  • Ensure that you undertake requisite professional development activities.
  • Any other official duties as may be assigned by the Facility in charge.

Qualifications

  • Diploma in Clinical Medicine & Surgery or other related area of specialization.
  • 2 years of work experience in provision of HIV services.
  • Understanding of current guidelines on HIV- NASCOP Certification in Provision of both adult and paediatric ART, and PMCT preferred.
  • Valid practicing license from the Clinical Officer’s Council of Kenya.
  • Good report writing skills and interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team.
