We are seeking to hire a Maintenance Technician who will be responsible for the maintenance activities of the power plant; including wind turbine fleets, collector networks, auxiliaries, switchgears, transformers, circuit breakers, power switches, plant inventories, medium voltage underground cables, Ring Main Units, and associated substation equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to health, safety, and environment practices, policies, and procedures, including compliance with work permit and lockout systems.
  • Perform predictive, preventive, and corrective maintenance on plant equipment in a timely manner.
  • Conduct regular testing on new and existing power systems, equipment, and machinery to identify potential problems.
  • Respond swiftly to system and machinery breakdowns, troubleshooting failures and making on-the-spot repairs or installations.
  • Carry out required installations and repairs on main electrical equipment including medium voltage underground cables, Ring Main Units, transformers, switchgears, and ancillary components in accordance with technical specifications.
  • Define, prepare, and control work orders and secure spare parts for job completion to ensure efficient use of maintenance resources.
  • Interpret technical instructions, drawings, diagrams, and process flow charts to troubleshoot faults.
  • Maintain all maintenance records and logs as required.
  • Operate standard power tools and equipment to execute repairs and installation works.
  • Support maintenance engineers and inventory teams in initiating requisitions for spare parts and materials.
  • Participate in inspection and verification of received spare parts to confirm technical specifications before warehouse acceptance and ensure proper accountability of requisitioned items.
  • Prepare and submit maintenance reports (weekly, monthly, and annual) in consultation with maintenance engineers.
  • Support engineering projects by defining scopes and preparing plans, drawings, and layouts.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

Required Qualifications:

  • Diploma or Higher Diploma (KNEC or equivalent) in Electrical Power Systems, Control & Instrumentation, or Electro-Mechanical/Mechatronics from a recognized institution.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ relevant working experience, preferably in a power generation facility. Busy manufacturing or process plant experience may be considered.
  • Must have experience in maintenance and operation of medium to high voltage (33/220 kV) substation equipment including power transformers, switchgears, circuit breakers, current transformers, voltage transformers, power switches, control panels, and surge arresters.
  • Knowledge of personal computers and proficiency in MS Office applications, including Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Access.
  • Switching certification by KPLC and basic understanding of Kenya’s power system grid layout will be an added advantage.
