The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is an international organization driven by the vision of a world without malnutrition. At GAIN, we believe that no one sector alone can solve the complex problem of malnutrition. We work closely with partners including governments, civil society, businesses, UN agencies, and academic institutions.
About the role
GAIN is seeking to recruit a Manager, SUN Business Network (SBN) and Private Sector Partnerships to deliver the Leveraging Nutrition for Food Systems Transformation – SUN Business Network project. The Manager will lead development of the SUN Movement’s private sector engagement strategy, supporting SBN alliances’ participation in nutrition governance in eight SUN countries, and restructuring SBN governance, including new co-chairing arrangements.
This role will be offered on a 14-month fixed term contract, subject to availability of funding and will be based in either one of our offices in Kenya, Uganda or Rwanda.
Key Responsibilities include.
- Support consultations leading to the development of the SUN private sector engagement strategy.
- Develop and execute a partnership strategy between agribusinesses in the Global North and Global South.
- Develop clear narrative and/or elements on the specific case and needs of the private sector in two Fragile and Conflict Affected States (FCAS) countries.
- Develop an SBN sustainability plan agreed on by all Movement’s Networks and SUN Movement Secretariat.
- Mobilise national private sector alliances (representatives or members) to participate in regional and global policy and advocacy platforms.
- Co-organise and facilitate the private sector through SBN to attend regional deep dives in the private sector in food systems transformation.
- Support national SBN alliances to participate in national nutrition dialogues.
- Support the private sector alliance representatives to develop private sector investment cases and foster strategic partnerships with Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs)/ Public Development Banks (PDBs) and other financing institutions.
About you
The ideal candidate should have strong experience in private sector development, ideally within food systems or nutrition-related programmes, together with proven experience in building and managing partnerships across the private sector, government and development organisations. They should be confident engaging a wide range of stakeholders, facilitating discussions, building consensus and translating strategic priorities into practical activities. Experience working in low- and middle-income country contexts, brokering private-private or public-private partnerships, and supporting investment or financing initiatives would be particularly relevant.
The candidate should have strong project management skills, with experience managing workplans, budgets, risks, consultants and delivery across different teams or countries. They should be able to build effective working relationships, influence others without necessarily having direct line management responsibility, and communicate clearly with internal and external stakeholders. Strong judgement, problem-solving, negotiation and facilitation skills are important, alongside the ability to work flexibly in complex environments, manage competing priorities and travel as required.
