Project Description
Tujenge Jamii is an award led by Deloitte and Touche LLP. The core vision of Tujenge Jamii is to create a county owned, county led, and county managed integrated platform for delivery of life saving HIV, Women & Children, Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) and Nutrition services, with close collaboration between health facilities and communities and in line with the GHSD PEPFAR limited waiver guidance. The project is working in Baringo, Kajiado, Laikipia, Nakuru & Samburu counties: In Nakuru county, the project is implementing HIV prevention, Care and Treatment Services, Women’s & Children, WASH and Nutrition, while in Baringo, Kajiado, Laikipia and Samburu counties, the project is implementing HIV prevention, Care and Treatment interventions.
Tujenge Jamii’s objectives are to:
- Increase access and demand for quality HIV prevention services.
- Increase access and demand for quality HIV treatment services; and
- Increase access and demand for quality Women’s & Children, nutrition, and WASH services.
Role Description
The Medical Laboratory Technologist/Officer is responsible for providing services in select high-volume sites. They will work closely with the facility level service providers and supervisors to ensure that quality of laboratory services is sustained as defined by the Ministry of Health (MOH) service quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement and review laboratory standard operating procedures (SOPS and manuals.
- Establish routine workflow for timely specimen (DBS, Sputum, whole blood etc.) collection/reception, labelling, processing, storage and retrieval for EID, CD4, CrAg, VL, TB microscopy, TB mWRD testing etc. or packaging and referral to testing laboratories.
- Perform routine laboratory diagnostic and study related tests as per the SOPs.
- Ensure timely documentation of all laboratory test results in the respective laboratory registers and electronic medical records (EMR), review and dispatching of results.
- Strengthen laboratory quality monitoring by performing routine quality controls, participate in enrolled laboratory PT/EQA schemes and corrective actions for unsatisfactory PT results as required.
- Support facilities in preparation towards the implementation of Laboratory Quality Management System (LQMS)/Laboratory Continuous quality Improvement (LCQI) activities and processes.
- Comply with GCLP, laboratory biosafety and biosecurity guidelines and standards.
- Good commodity management at facility level through utilizing recommended laboratory commodity tools and accurate and timely reporting.
- Perform routine equipment preventive maintenance towards good management of laboratory equipment.
Qualifications:
- Diploma or Degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences.
- MUST be registered by the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologist Board (KMLTTB).
- MUST have a valid Laboratory practicing license.
- At least two (2) years’ experience in a busy clinical laboratory.
- Experience in laboratory QI/QA/QC processes
- Must be reliable, self-motivated and self-driven
- Must have an aptitude for technical problem solving
- Good communication and management skills
- Ability to conceptualize and understand program needs
