JOB SUMMARY
The MEL Senior Manager will supervise, plan, develop, implement, and evaluate all aspects of TREES’ Kenya Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning strategy. The role involves designing robust frameworks to track progress, measure impact, and ensure compliance with Verra’s Verified Carbon and Climate Community Biodiversity Standards, while facilitating organizational learning around carbon monitoring and agroforestry initiatives.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Framework Development & Implementation
- Develop surveys, SOPs, and training frameworks compliant with Verra and TREES standards
- Manage execution of baseline assessments, household community surveys, GIS ecosystem mapping, and Salesforce/TaroWorks data collection systems
- Implement TREES Adaptive Management Plan for short-term and long-term monitoring
- Monitor and evaluate overall progress toward targets and goals
Planning & Coordination
- Develop annual MEL plans and budgets in collaboration with program teams
- Coordinate field monitoring and evaluation activities with the MEL Director
- Cultivate relationships with local universities and professional institutions
- Recruit, train, and manage interns during high data collection periods
Data Management & Reporting
- Report monthly, quarterly, and annual progress to the Country Director
- Track project data and communicate key metrics to project staff
- Provide feedback on data trends and progress toward targets
- Ensure quality control, analyze collected data, and present results to program teams
Training & Capacity Building
- Develop training and quality control processes for all data collection activities
- Train field staff on MEL systems and applications, including refresher courses
- Notify field staff of upcoming data collection activities and processes
Stakeholder Engagement & Compliance
- Participate in investor/donor/third-party auditor calls and site visits
- Serve on cross-departmental committees to improve operational efficiencies
- Notify the Country Director of issues and risks in MEL activities
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
Education
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Statistics, Demographics, Public Policy, International Development, Economics, or related field
- Master’s degree or advanced certificate in M&E, Statistics, or Economics preferred
Experience
- Minimum 8 years in design and implementation of M&E in development projects
- Experience with national/international NGOs, UN bodies, or government projects
- Proven ICT skills, especially with Android technology and web-based databases
- Understanding of GIS systems
Skills & Competencies
- Fluency in written and spoken English
- Ability to travel frequently and work in remote areas
- Strong communication and relationship-building abilities
- Detail-oriented with problem-solving skills
- Technical training and leadership capabilities
