Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care to premature and critically ill neonates within the NICU.
  • Monitor vital signs, administer medications, and operate specialized neonatal equipment including ventilators and incubators.
  • Deliver care to newborns in the nursery and Neonatal High Dependency Unit (NHDU).
  • Assist medical teams during neonatal procedures and interventions.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient documentation and handover reports.
  • Educate and support families, promoting family-centered neonatal care.
  • Ensure strict adherence to infection prevention, patient safety, and clinical protocols.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and ongoing training programs.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Diploma in Kenya Registered Community Health Nursing (KRCHN), KRN/KRM, or a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) from a recognized institution.
  • Diploma in Pediatric Critical Care Nursing (mandatory).
  • Valid registration and practicing license with the Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK).
  • Additional training or higher diploma in Neonatal Nursing or Critical Care is an added advantage.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in NICU or neonatal care within a hospital setting.

  • Strong clinical expertise in neonatal and critical care nursing.
  • Proficiency in operating and troubleshooting neonatal monitoring and life-support equipment.
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
  • High levels of compassion, patience, and emotional resilience.
  • Ability to remain calm and effective in high-pressure and emergency situations.
  • Flexibility to work shifts, nights, weekends, and public holidays.
