Background information about the job or company

Amentum, a global leader in advanced engineering, technical, and professional services serving the US government, allies, and critical infrastructure sectors, is seeking an Operator in Responsible Charge (ORC) to support a unique US Navy program based on the island of Diego Garcia.

Responsibilities or duties

  • Manage the daily operations and maintenance of water treatment plants (WTP) and distribution systems in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including CNIC M-5090.1A.
  • Perform operational duties to ensure water quality standards are met and systems operate efficiently and effectively.
  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of certified plant operators and technicians.
  • Maintain a current and valid Level III Treatment and Level III Distribution operator certification and comply with professional development requirements to retain certification.
  • Conduct regular inspections and testing of water systems and ensure compliance with required operational and safety standards.
  • Respond to and troubleshoot operational issues, identifying and resolving problems to minimize system downtime.
  • Maintain accurate operational, maintenance, and performance records for water treatment plants and distribution systems.
  • Manage water testing and reporting, ensuring results meet quality assurance and regulatory standards.
  • Effectively communicate with internal staff and stakeholders, demonstrating proficiency in both verbal and written English.
  • Ensure approved designated temporary replacements are provided to maintain consistent operations during periods of absence for vacation or business trips, as required.

Qualifications or requirements

  • Certified Level III Treatment and Level III Distribution operator certification.
  • Demonstrated education, training, and practical experience in the operations and maintenance of water treatment and distribution systems.
  • Proficiency in verbal and written English language.
  • Must be in possession of a valid passport and be able to travel internationally.
  • Passport should be valid for a minimum of one (1) year or more at the time of hiring.
  • Ability to successfully pass contract medical requirements and maintain requirements for the duration of deployment.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in an austere OCONUS (Outside the Continental United States) environment with a multi-national workforce is preferred.
  • Valid country driver’s license and passport.
  • Country visa (as required in line with the U.S. Department of State Foreign Clearance Guide).
  • Strong knowledge of CNIC M-5090.1A standards and compliance requirements.
  • Experience leading and managing a team of certified operators to successfully handle operational tasks with efficiency and safety.
  • Proficiency in performing water quality testing, monitoring, troubleshooting, and addressing complex system issues in water treatment plants.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills and the ability to complete tasks in a timely and efficient manner.

Experience needed

1-3 years of relevant experience in managing water treatment, distribution systems, or similar plants.
