Role Overview:

  • We are seeking a Phlebotomist to join our Diagnostic Services team. The role involves accurate and compassionate collection of blood and other specimens from patients of all ages, ensuring comfort, safety, and adherence to laboratory protocols. The ideal candidate should be professional, patient-focused, and able to work efficiently in a hospital environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collect blood and other samples from patients using proper techniques and safety protocols.
  • Correctly label, document, and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis.
  • Reassure and guide patients through the sample collection process with empathy and professionalism.
  • Maintain cleanliness and infection control standards in all phlebotomy areas.
  • Safely handle and dispose of biohazardous materials in compliance with hospital policies.
  • Support laboratory staff in sample processing when required.
  • Monitor stock of phlebotomy supplies and report shortages promptly.
  • Participate in Quality Improvement and Patient Safety initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Diploma or Certificate in Phlebotomy or Medical Laboratory Sciences from a recognized institution.
  • Registration with the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board (KMLTTB) is an added advantage.
  • Previous experience in a hospital or diagnostic laboratory setting preferred.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Excellent venipuncture and specimen collection skills for both adults and paediatric population.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, especially with anxious patients.
  • High standards of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a busy hospital environment.
  • Commitment to patient safety, confidentiality, and professionalism.
  • Flexibility to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays.
