The Roll Form Expert will primarily evaluate existing processes and configure manufacturing systems to reduce cost, streamline processes, and improve sustainability for our roll-forming operations. The individual in this role will apply hands-on engineering techniques to improve manufacturing efficiency.

Job Responsibilities & Duties

  • Determine tooling needs and acquire proper tooling for roll forming
  • Analyze and correct issues with current tooling and processes
  • Provide engineering support and training to operations and maintenance
  • Confers with vendors to determine product specifications, arrange for equipment, materials, or parts, and evaluate products according to specifications and quality standards.
  • Design, fabrication, assembly, repair, troubleshooting, and maintenance of high-precision machines and systems used in roll forming, stamping, and die-making;
  • Research new materials and processing methods and become well-versed in metallurgy and materials behavior;
  • Plans and implements machine and process improvements related to safety, quality, and cost.
  • Performs other incidental and related duties as required and assigned, including projects or assignments to support the company.

Working Conditions: The Roll Form Expert is a safety-sensitive position working directly with machinery and equipment. Frequent exposure to a non-climate-controlled manufacturing environment where ambient air temperature can occasionally exceed outside air temperature.

  • Must be able to sit and view a computer screen for extended periods.
  • Must be able to bend at the waist and knees, walk, and stand for extended periods.
  • Must lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds when necessary.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, crawl under or over, and frequently climb (stairs).
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Capable of working in confined spaces and off the ground with height variances
  • Must be flexible and able to change schedule and hours of work to meet the needs of the organization
  • Must be able to travel to plant, customer, and vendor locations; occasional auto and airline travel required
  • The physical demands described here represent those that an employee must meet to perform the essential functions of this job successfully; reasonable accommodations may be available to enable individuals with a disability to perform the essential functions

Required Education, Experience & Skills

Education: High school diploma or GED required

Work Experience:

  • 5 -10 years of hands-on experience in roll forming production, product launch, and other manufacturing processes and machines, including mills, lathes (manual and CNC), welding, paint line, metal stamping machinery, machine controls, plant layout, and time study a plus
  • Candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

Technical Skills:

  • Understanding mechanical, electrical, air, hydraulic, and other systems, working knowledge of tools, common appliances, and devices.
  • Able to read and understand electrical and hydraulic schematics, blueprints, technical procedures, safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide inches and pounds using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Computer Skills:

  • Must be computer literate and proficient with Windows and MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Highly proficient with AutoCAD.

Organizational & Communication Skills:

  • Ability to communicate effectively across a diverse workforce
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to deal with individuals at all levels, both inside and outside the organization
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities efficiently and effectively and problem-solving
  • Must be detail-oriented with strong organizational, analytical, and time management skills
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to self-motivate, problem-solve, and work in a dynamic environment.
