Research Assistant

Purpose of position:

The Research Assistants will support study implementation through participant recruitment, clinical procedures, retinal imaging, sample collection, follow-up and accurate real-time data entry using REDCap, in compliance with study protocols and Good Clinical Practice (GCP).

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in identifying and directing potentially eligible participants at the health facility to the study room in line with the study procedures.
  • Support smooth participant flow during study visits, ensuring orderly movement through study procedures
  • Enter study data into REDCap as guided, ensuring accuracy and timely submission of information
  • Maintain and update simple study registers and tracking logs for screening, visits and follow-up of the study participants.
  • Make reminder calls or messages to participants regarding upcoming study appointments and visits
  • Follow up participants who miss scheduled visits to support retention and reduce loss to follow-up
  • Assist with participants time/transport reimbursement and other duties as assigned.
  • Assist in preparation, organization, and safekeeping of study materials, forms and workspace
  • Support community mobilization activities in collaboration with community health promoters when required
  • Follow instructions from supervisors at all times and maintain strict confidentiality of participant information.

Job Specifications:

  • Either a Diploma in Community Health Nursing (KRCHN), Public Health, or related field
  • At least one (1) year of continuous clinical experience with ANC, Maternity and Rural health experience.
  • Experience in research and as a community health officer will an added advantage
  • Basic computer literacy, with willingness to learn REDCap data entry systems
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills suitable for community and facility engagement
  • Ability to work effectively in both facility and community settings
  • Willingness to learn, follow instructions, and work under supervision
  • Previous experience in research or health-related programs is an added advantage
